The sleepless Night

A human went one evening to bed
And snuggled in beneath his coverlet
Curled up into a restful heap
Expecting soon to go to sleep.

But sleep was not to come,
His tumbling thoughts were troublesome,
So with his eyes still open wide
He turned to face the other side.

But still his thoughts kept tumbling round
And peace and sleep could not be found.
He tossed, he turned, and tossed again;
The clock struck half past ten.

And still the slumber was not yet to be.
So at about a quarter after three
He cursed and then got up,
Went to the kitchen, got a cup

Of coffee from the coffeepot,
Set down to think why he could not
Get rest and sleep tonight.
And now the answer to his plight:

It was the roasted coffee bean,
Brimful of caffeine.
