The Shangri-La

A human by the name of Jake
Had early gone to bed one night.
And as he lay there half awake
He thought that very soon he might

Again hike to this hidden forest lake
Where as a boy he went with Pa.
And then, still half awake
He did recall, they named it Shangri-La.

And so, one balmy summer day,
With backpack and with fishing gear,
We find him hiking on his way
Through woods so still and air so clear.

He crossed a creek, a log as bridge,
He hiked for hours, so it seemed.
At last he climbed the last high ridge,
And there it was, whereof he'd dreamed.

It wasn't as he'd dreamed at all,
Now concrete condos ringed the shore,
A golf course and a shopping mall;
His Shangri-La, it was no more.
