The Masterpiece

A human with a well known name
Whose art had won much critical acclaim
Just finished one more fruit of his artistic toil,
Another stunning abstract masterpiece in oil.

The canvas was entirely in glossy black,
Except that in the center was a speck,
About one inch across, in shiny bright cerise.
It was this artist's latest masterpiece.

And since he was a modern man of fame
He gave the painting a new-agey name.
"Celestial Consciousness" he named it
When he was finished. Then he framed it.

And still in his creative upbeat afterglow
shipped it to the yearly artists' show,
AWhere to the public's, not to his, surprise
It was acclaimed, admired, won first prize.

He thanked the judges and the critics all,
But then he spied his canvas on the wall
And paled, then stammered with a frown:
"You hung my painting upside down!"
